PLEASE JOIN US FOR THE MBTA’S 2020 CUMBERLAND COUNTY MEETING. Our guest speaker will be Portland City Manager Jon P. Jennings who is leading several groundbreaking transportation initiatives in the city. Jennings will speak about that work, including bringing autonomous and connected vehicle transportation to the city, as well as his career, which has spanned work in professional sports management, at the White House and U.S. Department of Justice.

JENNINGS WAS APPOINTED city manager of the city of Portland, Maine in June 2015. Prior to his appointment, he served as the assistant city manager for the city of South Portland. Since coming to work for Portland, he has focused his efforts on right-sizing municipal government so the city can concentrate on its core services. He also has led the city’s effort to implement autonomous and connected vehicle technology.

JENNINGS HAS HAD A COLORFUL CAREER. In 2007, he brought the idea of professional basketball to Maine and until 2012 was a partner in Maine Basketball, LLC, which owns the Maine Red Claws. Prior to moving to Maine, Jennings worked in the United States Senate, at the U.S. Department of Justice and at the White House. He also worked for the Boston Celtics in a variety of coaching and management positions for 11 years. He has served on the board of numerous charitable organizations, including the board of Mercy Hospital, July 4th Portland, and on the City of Portland’s Homelessness Task Force. He attended Indiana University (Bloomington) and Harvard University, where he received his master’s in public administration.
