The gap between what the state is funding and what the DD system needs is still more than $1 billion. We need to address implementing the rate models, adjusting the models, and fixing the minimum wage increase mechanism. We must also show policymakers that budgeting for caseload growth and minimum wage won't solve the underlying peril to the system.
Our issues are complex and there are admirable competing initiatives for funding. At the Legislative Affairs Conference, we need relentless executives, poised DSPs, and concerned self-advocates and family members to share the stark current budget realities, concerns about the future, and stories about the impact on their lives.
On Tuesday, we’ll prepare you with current messages and data. Then, we’ll review our current connections to legislators, who our key contacts are, and the number of touches we need to make. On Wednesday, you’ll meet with legislators and share your success at an evening reception. On Thursday, we’ll get the LAO’s perspective on the DDS budget, review the Assembly Budget Subcommittee hearing, discuss the HCBS self-assessment and transition process, and identify the next steps in the campaign. This campaign must persist to the day the budget passes!
We will conclude after lunch at 1:00 on Thursday afternoon. Plan your departure accordingly.
