ACEs, Trauma, and Toxic Stress Workshop 

In the absence of protective relationships, toxic stress in childhood impacts an individual's well-being across the lifetime. This workshop provides an overview of the ACE Study, Trauma, Toxic Stress and the Impact on Health.

This 4-hour intensive workshop will provide an overview, hands-on interactive learning, and strategies on becoming trauma-informed.

Participants will learn:

• About the ACE study, including the ACE Pyramid which provides the conceptual framework for the study;
• Outcome and Findings of the ACE study;
• Team Building Exercise with the Brain Architecture Game (this gets each team thinking and working together, while learning!);
• Definition of Toxic Stress and its Impact on the Developing Brain throughout the Lifespan;
• Impact of Early Adversity on Lifelong Health – Emotional and Physical;
• About the ACEs and Resilience Surveys, including their own scores;
• How Resilience Trumps ACEs; 
• The importance of creating trauma-informed and resilience-building practices based on the findings of the ACEs research; 
• Role plays practicing effective communication strategies, including reflective statements; and
• Shifting Thinking and Practice to become Trauma-Informed

Jane Robinson, LMHC, Registered Play Therapist Supervisor, Infant Mental Health Specialist founded the Center for Child Counseling in 1999 and continues her work as a volunteer consultant, trainer, and clinical supervisor.

She is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor, Registered Play Therapist Supervisor and is trained in Infant Mental Health through The Center for Prevention and Early Intervention  at Florida State University. Jane co-authored a chapter, “Play Therapy Techniques with Very Young At-Risk Children in Child Care Settings” published in the book Play Therapy with Very Young Children, edited by Dr. Charles Shaefer and wrote “A Way of Being with Children” – a manual focusing on helping caregivers effectively work with young children.

Dominika Nolan, MS, LMHC, NCC, CCMHC, Director, Institute for Clinical Training

Dominika is a licensed mental health counselor, national certified counselor and certified clinical mental health counselor. She is the director of the institute for clinical training. Dominika is a member of EMDR International Association and she is a Registered Circle of Security Parenting facilitator. She received a Bachelor’s Degree in Arts with a major in Psychology from Dublin Business School in Ireland in 2012. In 2016, she graduated with a Master’s Degree in Science, with a focus in Counseling Psychology from Lynn University. 
She started with the Center for Child Counseling as an intern in 2015. In 2016, she started working as a full-time therapist with the Community and Childcare Social-Emotional Wellness (CCSEW) program. Dominika has training in Play Therapy, Sand Tray and Art Therapy techniques, Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy (REBT), Infant Mental Health, and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT).
Dominika has certifications in QPR Suicide Prevention, Relational Suicide Assessment: Risks, Resources & Possibilities for Safety, Think:Kids, and Group Therapy. She has experience working with children, teenagers, and adults, providing individual, family, and group therapy.
