Bob Bruner is University Professor at the University of Virginia, Distinguished Professor of Business Administration, and Dean Emeritus of the Darden Graduate Business School.  He has also held visiting appointments at Harvard and Columbia Universities in the United States, and at INSEAD in France, and IESE in Spain.  He is the author, co-author, or editor of more than 20 books, and has won several teaching awards.  In 2012, Poets & Quants and CNNMoney/ Fortune named him "Dean of the Year."

As a financial economist, Bruner is best known for his research on mergers and acquisitions, corporate finance and financial crises. His books, Case Studies in Finance (with Kenneth Eades and Michael Schill, now in its eighth edition), Deals from Hell and Applied Mergers and Acquisitions, have helped practitioners and students toward better practice. His book published in 2007, The Panic of 1907: Lessons Learned from the Market’s Perfect Storm, with Sean D. Carr, attracted attention for its discussion of the underpinnings of financial crises.  Currently, Bruner’s writing and teaching are in the areas of leadership, asset management, and financial crises.

Bruner has served on the boards of various non-for-profit organizations, including the Darden School Foundation and two for-profit corporations.  Currently, he serves on the Board of Governors of the CFA Institute and the boards of the INCAE Foundation and Rare Book School at the University of Virginia.
