Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder that has become increasingly prevalent over the past twenty years. Recent literature points to a growing number of children and youth with ASD who have co-occurring mental health concerns. Accessing treatment for these children and youth can be difficult, in part because clinicians who are familiar with general mental health disorders but less familiar with ASD may feel unprepared to provide services to those with ASD. Similarly, clinicians who specialize in the assessment and treatment of ASD may feel that managing mental health concerns is out of their scope.
This workshop for clinicians will provide an integrated and interdisciplinary approach to the diagnosis and treatment of ASD and co-occurring mental health conditions through a combination of theory-based and practical discussion. Treatment will be discussed from both a psychotherapeutic and a medical perspective.
