Hybrid Clinic Days June 4-5 with coaches Dave Perry and Jacon Mayer

Racing June 6-7

This regatta is currently full. You can register for the digital clinic only below.

Clinic Info:

The Clinegatta format is a wonderful way to work on your teamwork and hone your skills against top notch competition and an opportunity to race in the Match 40s, the boats used for the Oakcliff International and the Thompson Cup (both part of the Grand Slam Series and World Match Race Tour 2020). The event will not only be thrilling for each team, but also very useful to teams trying to make it into the next tier of match racing.

This clinic will be a hybrid format with online instruction sessions and on-the-water drills with video recording for the debrief. The current schedule is as follows:

Thursday June 4: Online Sessions Via Zoom

09:30-11:30- Match 40 Boathandling

12:30-14:30- Match 40 Boatspeed

15:00-17:00- Match Race Strategy, Tactics and "shaking off the rust"

Friday June 5: Practice and De-brief

Jacon Mayer

No zealot like a convert, they say. Jacon was a latecomer to sailing, learning at 18 on an outdoor semester. He sailed at the University of Vermont and at Wesleyan University, but didn't become a proper racer until he camped out at Oakcliff and refused to leave. Sensing an opportunity to combine his experience as a NOLS instructor with the resources of Oakcliff, Jacon designed the student programs, pitched Dawn and the board, and became Oakcliff's first Student Program Director in 2012. He has since worked as the sailing director at various fancy yacht clubs and some small non-profits, but eventually left professional sailing to spend more time climbing mountains. He's kept his hand in by coaching high-school team racing (really just three match races simultaneously) for the last seven years.
