How to Build a Bow-String Bridge Workshop

Meet at Gazebo to the left of the Community Center. From here, you will carpool and caravan into Stones Creek Gamelands to see a current example of this bridge.

You will enter from Highway 210, GPS coordinates 34°33'28.4"N 77°26'48.0"W (34.557886, -77.446672), Sneads Ferry, NC 28460.
(This entrance is directly across from Dixon Elementary School, 130 Betty Dixon Rd, Holly Ridge, NC 28445.)

The bowstring hiking bridge is an innovative concept for a strong, lightweight and simple bridge, suitable for most all hiking trails. Segment 15 volunteer and trail builder Mike O’Neill will share how their volunteers planned and executed these bridges and help trail builders learn how to construct them in their section of trail.

There will not be any actual bridge building, rather a “hands on how to” learning session with plenty of time for questions and the added bonus of spending time in Stones Creek!

We will drive in about half way on fire roads, and then walk about two thirds of a mile to the bridge site.
