Create a Masterpiece with R. Gregory Christie

A Paint and Sip evening fundraiser with Caldecott honoree, R. Gregory Christie. All proceeds from this event will support the Multicultural Children's Literature Celebration. 

Registration fee / donation $60.00. Alumni and teachers can enter the code MASTERPIECE for 50% off the registration fee. 

DESCRIPTION

Meet with multi award-winning illustrator R Gregory Christie as he shows you how to make a masterpiece. The two hour session will involve step by step painting on a 11 x 14 canvas. There will be easy to follow instructions for all levels of students, so no experience is necessary, just be ready to have some creative fun!
R. Gregory Christie is a multi award winning illustrator with more than 60 children’s books to his credit.
Some career highlights are the 2017 Caldecott Honor and 7 Coretta Scott King Honors and has been working as an illustrator for more than 20 years, illustrating more than sixty books for young adults and children. Christie has collaborated with clients such as, The New Yorker, Rolling Stone, Vibe, The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, The Kennedy Center, Marlo Thomas, Pete Seeger, Chris Rock, Queen Latifah, Laurence Fishburne and Karyn Parsons on a variety of projects. He is the 2013 Kwaanza Stamp designer, a NAACP Image Award winner and a four time winner of the American Library Association's Coretta Scott King Honor award for illustration. 
Mr. Christie is Caldecott honor recipient, a New York Times 10 Best Illustrated Children’s Books of the Year Award winner. A seven time winner of the Coretta Scott King Honor Award in Illustration, The NAACP’s Image Award, The Boston Globe’s Horn Book Award, American Library Associations’ Theodore Seuss Geisel Award, 2013 Ashley Bryan Illustrated Africana Children’s Literature Award and a 10 Books All Young Georgians Should Read Award in both 2014 and 2015.  His illustrations have been featured on HBO Kids, PBS’ Between the Lions”, on New York City’s subway cars for a year, on the 2013 Congo Square New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival poster, and on the 2013 United States Post Office Stamp entitled, “Kwanzaa Forever”. 
  
His most acclaimed book "Freedom In Congo Square" is a Caldecott honor winner and focuses on the history of that New Orleans landmark. Mr. Christie currently works as a freelance illustrator and operates his mobile autographed children’s bookstore GAS-ART GIFTS.

Cancellation and Refunds

 Requests for cancellations and requests to withdraw from the course received in writing 10 or more days before the event starts will be eligible for a full refund.
