Paraprofessional Literacy Training

As a paraprofessional, you are often the  first resource when students need learning support in literacy. This workshop will provide you with a deeper understanding of the foundations of successful reading, as well as techniques and strategies you can use to effectively support students as readers and thinkers.

During this training, participants will:

- Understand the foundation of successful reading
- Develop a toolkit for supporting students as readers and thinkers in the classroom, including:
  • Techniques to provide appropriate support while gradually releasing the work to students in order to promote greater independence
  • Useful prompts and cues to redirect or encourage learning
  • Effective strategies for students to use before, during, and after reading to promote understanding
- Practice applying new tools in “If-you-observe-this-behavior,-then-try-this” scenarios

Audience:  Paraprofessionals who support students in grades K-12 during literacy and/or English Language Arts instruction

This event will be offered virtually in two half day sessions:
April 23, 2020 - 9:00am-12:00pm
May 7, 2020 - 9:00am-12:00pm
Zoom links will be sent to participants closer to event dates
