Capitol 'Fly-In' March 10-11 Sacramento

CalAPA members are encouraged to attend our annual "Fly-In" to the state Capitol in Sacramento, where you can meet face-to-face with elected officials and key legislative staffers to discuss transportation funding and other issues of importance to the asphalt pavement indState Capitolustry in California.

This year's Fly-In is particularly important so that our elected representatives know we are keeping a close watch on how SB1 transportation dollars are being spent. The landmark legislation, "The Road Repair & Accountability Act of 2017," is generating more than $5 billion per year to fix state and local roads. It is imperative that our elected officials understand the critical need to get these funds converted to projects quickly so that Californians can see their tax dollars at work. In addition, there are many other bills and policy matters percolating at the State Capitol in Sacramento that may impact the asphalt pavement industry and merit our close attention and engagement.

The Fly-In will begin on Tuesday, March 10 at noon at the iconic Sutter Club in downtown Sacramento with a lunch and briefing by CalAPA's advocate, Jeff Sievers, on the latest on transportation-related bills and other The Sutter Club policy matters the association is monitoring and may have a position on. The afternoon of Day 1 will be filled with appointments with elected officials and key legislative staffers.

There will be an optional dinner Tuesday night, also at The Sutter Club, from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m., just two blocks from the Capitol. Our special dinner guest is state Sen. Brian Dahle (R), a member of the Senate Transportation Committee. The Fly-In will resume the morning of Wednesday, March 11 with additional Capitol appointments. Breakfast is on your own. The Fly-In will conclude at noon.

All participants will be provided with briefing materials, which will include talking points, schedule of appointments and other important reference information.

The cost to the attend the Fly-In is $69 and includes lunch at The Sutter Club. An optional dinner with a member of the Legislature will take place at The Sutter Club and is an additional $99. Contact CalAPA for sponsorship opportunities.

Lodging is on your own. Click HERE for a list of nearby hotels that are within walking distance of the Capitol. Parking for the Sutter Club is via a parking structure at 824 L Street. Tell the attendant you are there for a CalAPA event. Contact Russell Snyder of CalAPA at (916) 791-5044 if you have any questions.
