2020 High School Summer Trip
Christ Lutheran High School youth are heading 395 miles up the state of California to Santa Cruz for Adventures on the Coast at Mt.Cross Lutheran Camp! Adventures on the Coast is a one-week experience that provides a chance for adventure, service, and spiritual growth with challenge courses, archery, hiking, kayaking, and some sightseeing!
What to Expect
The drive from Christ Lutheran, Costa Mesa is about 5 1/2 hours to 7 hours, depending on traffic! Since we're leaving on a Sunday morning, the drive should be smooth to get us through LA without much traffic. Most of the way is straight and easy driving, once we get to the 152 and 156, the roads are very mild in their turns and are not anything like the drive to Big Bear.
Mt.Cross is only a 20 minute drive from downtown Santa Cruz, yet once you're at camp you feel complete peace surrounded by the towering redwood trees. The property includes 100 acres of redwood covered land that includes hiking trails, a rock wall, archery, a pool, challenge courses, low and high ropes courses, a sand volleyball court, a worship area with a fire pit for making s'mores, and sport field for incredibly fun games led by camp counselors.
The Adventures on the Coast Program is specifcally for high school youth and will allow for a great balance of fun at Mt.Cross, along with service at the camp or locally and adventures to downtown Santa Cruz, the boardwalk, beach and even the Monterey Bay Aquarium!
Leaders
Youth will be driven and led by Dana Peterson who oversees Christ Lutheran's high school ministry. Additionally, there will be a male leader to lead alongside one to two Mt.Cross trained camp counselors. Dana served at Mt.Cross Camp in Santa Cruz for two summers as a camp counselor and can vouch for how awesome this week is going to be!
Registration
Each youth will need to register with Christ Lutheran by March 16th at the button linked below so that we can secure a group of at least 5 youth to make this trip viable!
Mt.Cross provides camper registration, waivers, and additional forms that will be needed at a later date and will be communicated via email by Dana.
Cost and Deadlines
The cost for this event includes: lodging, all meals, a camp photo, off-site site seeing and adventures. It will be recommended to bring money for travel days, snacks at camp and off-site, and any souvenirs.
March 16: Register Online with Christ Lutheran $100 deposit (non-refundable)
April 16: Early Payment Deadline (8th grade $275 | 9th-12th grade $525)
June 16: Regular Payment Deadline (8th grade $400 | 9th-12th grade $550)
We want all high school youth to be able to attend and never want cost to be a hurdle ot joining the fun! Each youth has the opportunity to raise funds for their youth account to cover expenses. Contact Dana for more information on how they can serve to help offset the cost.
Mt.Cross Policy for Cancellations and Refunds
If a cancellation occurs before May 1, you will lose only the $100 deposit. If you cancel after May 1, you are responsible for 50% of the remaining cost. As of June 1, you are responsible for the full cost and no refund will be given.
