REGISTRATION OPEN MARCH 3 to 24, 2020
What is it?
Match play is a competition of one player against an opponent in which the scoring is done by counting holes. You play against an opponent, not against a course, and the game is decided by who has won the most holes. Rule 3 of the Rules of Golf addresses competition, section 3.2 addresses Match Play specifically. Click Here for a brief video from the USGA explaining the format.
Our Dallas Cup is team match play.
Each team has four (4) players, two (2) teammates play each scheduled match. You can form your own team – or you can sign up as an individual and we’ll help put together some of the teams. The Dallas Cup Coordinators will email match details and results on a weekly basis. We will also have a Match Play Rules Q&A meeting after Play Day at Sherrill Park on Saturday, March 14. For now, get your teams registered and get ready for some FUN match play competition!
Matches can be one of 3 formats:
Singles – one player from one team against one player from the other team
Four-Ball or Better Ball – two teammates play their own ball and they use the better score between the two against the other teams’ better ball
Foursomes or Alternate Shot – two teammates play one ball, alternating shots through the hole against the other team
