WSTC Parent Leadership Conference 2020

Parent Leadership 2017

Our popular Parent Leadership Conference is coming up in May. This is an event that parents LOVE - an opportunity to develop leadership, communications and advocacy skills that will both help them personally and help your policy council! This training will be very interactive, so parents will get a lot of practice with their developing skills.

Agenda:

May 12, 9:00 am – 5:00 pm

May 13, 9:00 am – 4:00 pm

Curriculum includes:

  • Communications and Collaboration Training – What is your communications style?  How can you most effectively work in a group?  How do you work with others to develop goals and plans that are clear, achievable, and will be completed successfully?
  • Negotiation and Conflict – Being able to master the skills of negotiation and conflict resolution is one key to success in all areas of human interaction – work, school, and home.  Parents will get some hands-on practice with these skills, based on common scenarios.
  • Advocacy – Effective advocacy, whether it is with an elected official, with your child’s teacher or with your boss, is about building relationships and understanding how to clearly convey your message in a way that is also clear to the listener.  Parents will hone their communication skills, learning how to craft messages that resonate with their listeners.
  • Leadership TrainingParents will learn skills that will help them become a leader not only in their Head Start and ECEAP communities but also at home. The skills they learn will be transferable to work and school.
