GOAL
The purpose of the VA ASLA Honors Program is:• To recognize and celebrate Design Excellence, Distinguished Service, Dedication, Stewardship, and Significant Contributions within the landscape architecture profession of the Commonwealth of Virginia, and/or to the Virginia Chapter of ASLA by landscape architects, emerging professionals, students, and allied professionals.

Honor award recipients will be showcased at the VA ASLA Fall Conference during a special awards evening event, all conference attendees are invited to attend. Honor award recipients will also be featured on the VA ASLA website, in the chapter’s digital newsletter, and on all of the chapter's social media channels. Posters of the Honor award recipients will be displayed during the conference. All communications will go to the recipient nominator, identified in the submission package.

ENTRY CATEGORIES 
M. Meade Palmer Medal
To celebrate the extraordinary professional contributions of our late colleague, M. Meade Palmer, the Virginia Chapter of The American Society of Landscape Architects has established its highest award in his honor. The M. Meade Palmer medal will be awarded to an individual who exemplifies the values, sensibility and spirit reflected in the life and work of M. Meade Palmer:

  • Devotion to design excellence and the profession of landscape architecture
  • Dedication to encouraging and teaching others
  • Humility despite significant accomplishment
  • A deep respect for nature and context that guided his design interventions on the land, dictating a lightness of touch that became his hallmark

Distinguished Service Award
The Distinguished Service Award is to recognize an individual Virginia Chapter Fellow or member who has demonstrated sustained outstanding service to the Virginia Chapter.

Emerging Professional Award
The Emerging Professional Award is presented for outstanding contributions to the chapter and/or the landscape architecture profession by young professionals.

Stewardship Award
The Stewardship Award is presented for outstanding contributions to the protection and management of the natural resources of the Commonwealth.

Allied Professional Award
The Allied Professional Award is presented for outstanding contributions to the profession of landscape architecture with national or state-wide, regional, or local impact in Virginia.

Annual Scholarship for Excellence in the Study of Landscape Architecture
Each year, the Chapter recognizes two students, one at each of the accredited landscape architectural programs within the state—University of Virginia, and Virginia Polytechnic University—based upon the recommendations of the faculty. The student scholarship recipients receive a certificate and a monetary award at the annual meeting.

DEADLINE: 
All entries must be received by 11:59 on Monday, June 15, 2020

JURY: 
The Honor Awards Committee for the Virginia Chapter of ASLA is made up of 5 members appointed by the chapter President, and chaired by the chapter Secretary. All submissions to be reviewed and voted on by the committee, recipients to be recognized at the awards ceremony at the fall conference.

HONOR AWARDS:
Honor Award recipients will be notified prior to the awards ceremony they will be receiving an award (specifics withheld) and invited to attend the awards presentation ceremony, to be held during the VA ASLA fall conference. All nominators agree to submit a .pdf file for an exhibition poster representing the recipient as described in their nomination, if they are selected to receive an honor award. (Additional information will be sent to honor award nominators.)

GENERAL SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS:
1. The Registration Form to include nominee and nominator contact details – name, email, and phone number. Can be completed securely online by clicking here: Registration Form.  


2. A description of the nominee’s contributions/qualifications for the award for which they are to be nominated (no more than 1 page narrative). The Narrative Upload can be completed by going to: Narrative Upload.

3. Portrait style photo of nominee, if available: Photo Upload.

4. Additional information: Additional Information Upload. Optional:

  • Nominee’s resume
  • Up to 15 images representing the nominee’s work
  • If included, images should contain captions to provide insight into the content
