Thanks to everyone for supporting Wild Rose Horse Obstacle Contests over the past three years with a “We Ride to Give Back” attitude.  Because of your support, Wild Rose has contributed 20% of Bethany’s Gait’s budget on an annual basis.  Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for supporting Bethany’s Gait’s ministry of serving all military, veterans and first responders!

This year, due to rain storms and the corona virus issues, Wild Rose is not financially supporting Bethany’s Gait at any where near the same level of financial support. Hopefully our fall events will stay on track and we can financially support BG through those.

Bethany’s Gait is considering laying off their part-time staff in the office as well as their horse trainer-barn manager in an attempt to curb outflow of cash.  Bethany’s Gait has no source of income other than donations.  Many individuals have cut back on their contributions due to the pandemic times that are occurring.

At the last board meeting after we were made aware of the financial impact Coronavirus was having on the BG operations, Carole and I decided we’d like to donate. We also thought there may be others out there that would donate if they understood the urgent need. We decided that we would create a challenge gift situation. Since the stimulus money we have been promised ($1200 per person) was not in our budget we felt is was appropriate to pass some on and donate this to BG.

How this works is we will match dollar for dollar (up to a $1200 total limit) any contributions given by Wild Rose participants or friends of Wild Rose to Bethany’s Gait.  If you donate now you automatically double the amount of your donation. On top of this, the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act (CARES Act) allows those who do not itemize deductions to write off up to $300 per person or $600 per couple on their 2020 taxes when they file taxes for 2021.This means you will get part of your donation refunded to you at tax time next year. Let’s consider this a triple play opportunity --- you give-we give- government gives back.

What have the Wilder’s been up to during house arrest?

Carole has been working with Buddy Uldrickson for the past couple of months on Horsemanship and training with her Tux. Progress has been very good. Tux will be home soon.

Gary finished his radiation in December for the cancer and then started riding Doxalita again. Gary has three more chemo treatments which should be done by the end of this month. Doxalita had been on stall rest and horse therapy for the last 15 months due to a torn flexor tendon. So starting January 1st we started to get re-acquainted and started a conditioning program of horse and rider. On Good Friday, Doxalita and I rode a 10-mile mountain trail in the White Tank Mountains in 3 hours and 45 minutes to achieve a goal I had set for us. Since January 1st, I have ridden 5 times per week to get ready for this goal just achieved. Of course, I rode it by myself with only an occasional group of hikers to converse with. Both Doxalita and I were tired but satisfied with the achievement

How have you been using your house arrest time?

Tux, Doxalita, Carole and Gary are ready to ride. Hope to see you on the trail soon.
