The Implications of Stolen Valor on Social Work
The presentation will begin with an introduction and overview from Tyleen Caffrey. Edward Caffrey will then provide a historical perspective on Stolen Valor. This will include case studies and examples from the media. Many of the examples seem so outlandish that audience members are often shocked by the lengths people will take to fabricate military backgrounds.
Using some of these case study examples, Mrs. Caffrey will then discuss some of the warning signs to help social workers identify possible military impostors. She will also discuss the appropriate steps to take if a social worker suspects stolen valor and resources to help compare client narratives to actual military records.
Finally, Mrs. Caffrey will discuss the importance of making correct diagnoses when encountering military impostors. She will elaborate on the need to treatment plan for personality disorders versus PTSD and TBI that are often based on fabricated stories.Presented by:
