Pie Baking Basics: Nov 7th, 2020

During this one day, in-depth class you will learn everything you need to make from scratch pies at home. Sarah will teach you:

  • 2 methods for making pie crust dough  
  • how to make fruit fillings (we'll begin with apple, but the method translates to many fruits)
  • how to form and bake hand pies
  • how to form and bake traditional round pies in a baking tin
  • tips and tricks for freezing, blind baking, and more

Tuition is $120.00 and includes:

  • All your pie ingredients for one savory and one sweet recipe
  • Each student will go home with one complete pie and a reusable baking tin. 
  • ** Please select a baking tools kit at checkout if you would like us to provide you with a pastry cutter, rolling pin, etc to take home after the class. Otherwise, please plan to bring these tools with you from home. 
  • A simple vegeterian friendly lunch will be provided. You are welcome to bring your own meal alternative.


  • To comply with Alabama's Safer at Home order, all registrations must be compiled of members of the same household.  
  • In accordance with Alabama's Safer at Home order, all parties from different households must remain at a 6-foot distance and wear masks inside common areas. 
  • This class will be taught open air in our Teaching Kitchen. Doors and windows will be open for air circulation. Please dress for the weather. All other meeting areas are closed. 
  • Lunch will be served outside to promote social distancing. 

 All Camp McDowell payments are processed through PayPal. You may use a credit card to pay this way without making a Paypal account. Student cancellations are subject to a $50.00 fee. Should Alabama Folk School cancel this event due to changes in COVID-19 ordinances you will be eligble for a tuition transfer or full refund.
