2020 Community Summit Webinar Series

Antidotes for Implicit Bias

with Dr. Benita Horn

Sponsored by Okanogan, Jefferson, Grays Harbor, Lewis, Cowlitz, and Clallam Counties

It was a difficult decision to cancel the Community Summit conference that was planned to be held in Wenatchee, Washington in June 2020. In the meantime, the on-going COVID-19 public health crisis has affected every citizen - in our homes, our workplaces, and our communities. Social distancing and the loss of familiar routines has many of us feeling alone and missing our friends, families, and co-workers. But we are still a community!
* The Community Summit Webinar Series is free to attend!

COVID-19 has been a game changer around the world.  As a result, more people are working in isolation, and many of us are experiencing anxiety, fear, concern and even misplaced anger.  In our country we are dealing with a pandemic that landed on the foundation of historical inequities and disparities. Some of the emotions surfacing are a breeding ground for unconscious / implicit bias to flourish and even creep in to our thoughts, words and actions.  This workshop will explore how we deepen our knowledge of implicit bias, how implicit bias negatively impacts goals of diversity/equity/inclusion, and of actions we can take as individuals to address behaviors around us that negatively impact others.

Learning Objectives (Info, tools, and skills attendees will receive):

  • Attendees will have an understanding of the definition unconscious/ implicit bias
  • Identify ways to change negatively impacted goals
  • Tools for diversity/equity/inclusion
