Driver Safety & Awareness

Prevention of work-related roadway accidents poses one of the greatest challenges in occupational safety. The roadway is a unique work environment. Compared with other work settings, employers’ ability to control working conditions and to exert direct supervisory controls is limited. Traffic volumes and road construction continue to increase. Despite these challenges, progress can be made in reducing the toll of work-related roadway crashes on American workers and their families. Employers, government agencies, policy makers, industry, and the research community must all work actively toward this goal.

This course is designed to not only provide insight into the contributors to work-related roadway accidents but also prevention strategies through a managed approach.

Topic covered include:

  • Vehicle Inspections
  • Basic Vehicle Control
  • Seeing/View
  • Communicating while driving
  • Controlling Speed
  • Managing Space
  • Night Driving
  • Seeing Hazards
  • Emergencies
  • Accident Procedures
  • Staying Alert and Fit to Drive
