Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder Virtual Training Series

The NorWest Community Health Centres will be holding a Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder Virtual Training Series in September and October 2020.  Each session is $35 to attend.  If you sign up for all 3 sessions, you can attend the 4th session for free.

There are many individuals in our systems of care who are viewed as being non-compliant and uncooperative.  Their behavior is viewed as purposeful and willful and they therefore get into difficulty in many settings, including home, school, corrections, treatment, and child welfare.  A great many of these individuals have Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder.  For them, their behaviors are most often due to how their brains function.  As a result, typical modalities to address behavior such as reward and consequence approaches are ineffective and often contraindicated.

This presentation series provides a brief overview of where we are in our understanding of FASD and how it impacts various systems, along with how to modify our methods to address issues for those with FASD and their families.  For those who complete the series, there will be an opportunity for online consultation of specific issues and situations.
