         The Legacy Writing             Workshop Series

Three online workshops with Rachael Freed

Legacy writing, one pathway to your spiritual self, and to a deep connection with loved ones and future generations still to come, may be best practiced in community, with a group of like-minded and unique others.  In this Sage-ing International "Beyond the Basics" online event, we hope to bring together a global circle of elders who have that goal.

Our Times Together

1 - Tuesday, November 10, 2020

Writing Legacies of the Virus, COVID-19 and Racism:                         Documenting the world's changes in 2020

We’ll consider and write about our time: just a week after national elections, we continue to face the COVID-19 pandemic, and our national and historical epidemic of racism. Our understanding, values, and experiences of this moment in history are significant and need to be documented for our own healing and for future generations.

“Those who don’t understand the past are condemned to repeat it." – George Santayana

“Love and compassion are necessities, not luxuries.  Without them, humanity cannot survive.”  – Dalai Lama

2 - Tuesday, December 8, 2020

The Legacy of Secrets:  Their effects on us and future generations

Join us to explore our positive and painful secrets, often unacknowledged, even unconscious. Whether kept because of fear or shame, uncovering our secrets – differentiated from guarding our privacy – can clarify the effects they’ve had on us and our loved ones. We’ll consider the advantages and the risks of keeping our secrets. The goal is to discover who we are (and the secrets we carry) and what we value, so that our life and legacy can make a positive difference.

“…our own history and the history of the world [is] embedded in us; we hold a sorrow deep within and cannot weep until that history is sung."   – Susan Griffin

“What would happen if one woman told the truth about her life? The world would split open.”  – Muriel Rukeyser

3 - Tuesday, January 12, 2021

The Legacy of Messengers, Mentors, and Angels:            Gratitude for the gifts we've received

Who has appeared in your life to see, acknowledge, appreciate, and support you? How have your relationships with your angels impacted your life? In this workshop we’ll explore the joyous, inspiring, magical relationships with our angels and the gifts we’ve received from them. We’ll also consider how we are and can be angels/mentors for others.

“The mentor/teacher is the person who sees who you are, sees your beauty, falls in love with it, helps and inspires it, giving it a chance to bloom in the world.” – James Hillman

“Sometimes our light goes out but is blown into flame by another human being. Each of us owes deepest thanks to those who have rekindled this light.” – Albert Schweitzer

“Each one of us has the possibility, probability, and privilege to be a rainbow in someone’s cloud.”  – Maya Angelou

Certified Sage-ing Leaders who attend will be able to use the material later to facilitate this same workshop (as a local, face-to-face event) in their communities; contact Rosemary Cox for details.
