Please join us for the upcoming training, Promoting Racial Justice in Clinical Decision-Making with Tori Lopez, LCSW & Wayne Scott, MA, LCSW on Wednesday, January 6th from 8:30am-4:30pm. The training cost is $110 - Includes six CEUs from MHACBO. All proceeds go towards the VOA Al Forthan Scholarship to support students who come from families impacted by addiction.
The COVID Pandemic has brought unprecedented pressure onto helping professionals in health, human services, and non-profit settings. In addition to the rapid spread of sometimes lethal sickness, hitting hard in communities of color, there is renewed scrutiny of unjust police practices and the way they impact members of the African-American community. The dramatic economic downturn has also negatively impacted communities of color and diminished resources available to agencies that provide urgently needed resources.
The Black Lives Matter movement has brought renewed attention to racial inequities in our communities; it is imperative for helping professionals to center racial justice in the ways they work, particularly when it comes to clinical ethical decision-making. How do we deepen our commitment to racial justice beyond the usual statements about cultural competency and social justice? How to update our own personal commitment to racial justice in how we tackle our work?
This webinar provides a forum for helping professionals to deepen their commitment to racial justice. It provides an ethical decision-making model that centers racial justice as it helps practitioners resolve ethical dilemmas related to the COVID pandemic and other racial inequities.
As a clinician Tori Lopez, LCSW has worked with marginalized and traditionally underserved youth in the public school, community mental health, and criminal justice systems, with an interest in youth of color and LBGTQA+ individuals. She has also been a crisis responder who worked with individuals who struggle with chronic mental illness. She is a Wraparound Instructor for PSU's System of Care Institute.
Since 1989 Wayne Scott, MA, LCSW has worked with youth and adults in outpatient, residential, and hospital settings in Chicago, Washington, D.C., and Portland, OR and he currently maintains a private practice in the Buckman neighborhood. He has provided clinical supervision to social workers, family therapists, counselors, and addiction specialists and has taught clinical ethics at Portland State University. He writes memoir and personal essays, which have appeared in The New York Times, The Sun, Salon, and The Oregonian, among others.
