2020 Maryland EHDI Stakeholders Meeting 

Join us for the 2020  Maryland Early Hearing Detection and Intervention (EHDI) Stakeholders Conference.  Three dates one great conference.

September 10, 2020  - 1:00 - 3:00 pm Eastern Time

State of the State - Maryland EHDI Program.  During this session participants will gain an awareness and understanding of the priorities for the MD EHDI system, learn about current MD EHDI Program statistical data and learn ways in which they can engage with and participate in the MD EHDI system. 

Trauma, ACES and Data.  This presentation will set the stage for the conference.  Participants will describe the impact of ACES on child health and development, summarize recent data on ACES and learn ways to help build resiliency in students and families.

 September 17, 2020 - 1:00 - 3:00 pm Eastern Time

Trauma and Stress in the Early Years.  This presentation will take us through understanding the key elements in early childhood vulnerability to trauma and stress and the basic elements of brain neuroscience and its relevance to child growth and development.  Participants will be able to talk about the stress response and how it impacts the body as well as emotions in young children (birth to five).  Participants will also be able to introduce different techniques in age appropriate language and discuss basic guidelines for re-evaluating children's behavior challenges.

September 24, 2020 - 1:00 - 3:00 pm Eastern Time

Trauma and Deaf and Hard of Hearing Children. This presentation will allow presenters to identify the prevalence rates of trauma in the Deaf and hard of hearing population and long term negative impact.  Participants will be able to describe the associated risk factors of language deprivation and trauma in the Deaf and hard of hearing population and identify protective factors that clinicians and other professionals in the EHDI system can utilize in their practice.

Meet the 2020 MD EHDI Conference Presenters 

 Lora Matz, MS., LICSW

Lora Matz, MS., LICSW, Lora is a national leader in the field of Integrative Medicine. She has advanced education in spiritual psychology and is a psychotherapist, lecturer, writer, and teacher. She also is a senior faculty member with the internationally recognized, Center for Mind-Body Medicine (www.cmbm.org).  She is part of the international “healing the wounds of war and global trauma team.” This work has taken her to Haiti and the Middle East and throughout the United States to work with trauma survivors in innovative approaches of trauma recovery, self-care and prevention.  Lora co-created a curriculum through her work with The Center for Mind-Body Medicine to train school and health care professionals who live in New Orleans in a three -year project post Katrina.  Lora led a unique project through St. Stephens Human Services in MN, where she trained inner city pre-school teachers and children 3-5, and their parent’s the principals of emotional literacy, self awareness and stress reduction skills.   She has a passion in bringing creative, evidence based integrative and transformative practices to the field of mental health and death and dying. Lora has served as adjunct faculty member with the University of Minnesota’s Center for Spirituality and Healing where she helped to create the Health Coaching Masters Degree Program.

Danielle Previ, PhD

Dr. Danielle Previ is a licensed psychologist in the state of Maryland and currently works at the Kennedy Krieger Institute in Baltimore, MD. Dr. Previ received her undergraduate degree from the Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, New York and Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Gallaudet University in Washington, D.C. She completed her pre-doctoral internship training in neuropsychology and pediatric psychology at the Kennedy Krieger Institute/ Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Dr. Previ is fluent in American Sign Language and she specializes in providing accessible neuropsychological assessments and trauma focused therapy services to individuals who are deaf, hard of hearing or affected by some type of hearing loss.
