About This Year's Event

This October the NY Funders Alliance network of members will participate virtually in the 2020 Fall Funders Convening! To allow for full engagement, we're spacing this year's offerings over two weeks in October, beginning with the Annual Meeting and Keynote Address on October 19th. Other coordinated programs will continue the theme of race, equity, and inclusion work and how grantmakers can employ strategies to advance more equitable practices with increased impact.

NY Funders Alliance Annual Meeting & Keynote Address featuring Marcus Walton

We will begin our first day together with the Annual Meeting of the NY Funders Alliance membership. Following our Annual Meeting, we will be joined by Marcus Walton, President & CEO of GEO. Marcus will provide remarks kicking off a series of programming for this year's Fall Funders Convening that will center around racial equity, diversity, and inclusion work for grantmakers. Marcus will share GEO's journey of identifying racial equity as a core element of their strategy, and his thoughts on how the philanthropic sector can engage more deeply in this area.

Wednesday, October 21st (1:30pm - 3:00pm)

Racial Equity and Philanthropy: Disparities in Funding for Leaders of Color Leave Impact on the Table

As organizations, we strive to catalyze change and drive impact across a spectrum of issues in the communities we work in and care about. In their recent report, Jeff Bradach, Founder and Co-Director of Bridgespan and Cheryl Dorsey, President of Echoing Green, identified the two biggest factors that inhibit philanthropy’s quest for social change: understanding the role of race in the problems we are trying to solve and the significance of race in how philanthropic organizations identify leaders and find solutions. Join this session for a presentation and discussion on the findings of their report, Racial Equity and Philanthropy: Disparities in Funding for Leaders of Color Leave Impact on the Table. As a network we will discuss their research and explore steps grantmakers can take to have real, lasting impact on the communities we serve.

Monday, October 26th (1:30pm - 3:30pm)

Drive Equity: Justice and Inclusion in Grantmaking Practice

If we were to design the grantmaking process to contribute to a more just and equitable world, what would that look like? Melissa Sines, Programs and Knowledge Director at PEAK Grantmaking will lead this engaging session highlighting the types of grantmaking practices that support – or hinder – equity. Participants will learn about practices that support more equitable grantmaking, how to overcome organizational barriers to change, and possible next steps for working toward greater alignment between grantmaking practices and the values of diversity, equity, and inclusion within your own organization.

Wednesday, October 28th (1:30pm - 3:00pm)

Member Social

One of your favorite parts of the Fall Funders Convening is the ability to catch up with colleagues and connect with new members of our network. Even though this year’s event is being presented virtually, we look forward to you joining us for our first Member Social.
