Join fellow forest stewards on Wednesday August 19, 9am-noon mulching trees in the riparian area of Alton Baker Park and the Whilmut Natural Area, starting near the radio tower and working down towards the Knickerbocker Bridge. Mulching will help increase water retention, keep competitive weeds down, and allow for mowing space to reduce root compaction. Please bring/wear sunscreen and a mask. Tools, gloves and other supplies will be provided by Eugene Parks.
DIRECTIONS: Please arrive about 15 minutes early and plan to park at the Alton Baker Boat Ramp or in front of the Community Gardens space, just off Day Island Road, where it turns left from the far corner of the upper parking lot at Alton Baker Park. You will need to walk to the radio town along the road from where you park – just follow the road on foot into the Whilamut natural area – see map above for reference.
Your River thanks you!
