virtual workshops this fall to help educators learn how to mitigate the effects of trauma and foster resilience in the children in their care. The series is funded by the MWCC Early Childhood Program and the Heywood Hospital "Handle With Care" grant funded by the State Attorney General's Office and the MA EEC ECE Career Pathways Grant. The workshop facilitator will be Dr. Cassie Yackley, Psy.D, PLLC, who has spent more than 25 years committed to understanding and effectively addressing the impact of traumatic/adverse experiences on children, caregivers/families, and systems. You can learn more about her work at cassieyackleypsyd.com.
Trauma-Informed Care and Trauma-Responsive Services is the focus of Session 3 to be held October 27. Educators are faced with challenging circumstances in their role today, not the least of which is disrespectful, aggressive, and non-compliant behaviors exhibited by students. We will explore the underlying adversities that are often at the root of these behaviors, and learn how they can undermine neurodevelopment, as well as future social, emotional, and cognitive functioning. Research in social neuroscience has demonstrated that interpersonal relationships, especially student-teacher interactions, can promote brain growth and learning by providing safety, promoting reflection and hope, and capitalizing on our fundamental interconnectedness as human beings.
We will be accepting applications on a first-come, first-served basis until full.
