Who should attend?
Training classes are only open to counselors and staff working for a nonprofit, unit of local government or community based organization in Texas, interested in providing successful homebuyer and financial education and/or affordable housing.

What type of Certification does the training provide?

NeighborWorks America offers a variety of certification programs, including certifications for both homeownership counselors and affordable housing providers. Thank you for your interest in TSAHC's Housing Connection training!

This year, Housing Connection will be provided online in the form of one instructor-led virtual course and six self-guided webinars. The instructor-led virtual course will last four weeks. The self-guided webinars will be offered in two separate phases, and must be completed within the date range they are offered

Instructor-Led Virtual Class
  October 13-November 9, 2020
*This faculty-led course includes self-paced online assignments and the use of peer discussion forums. The course is presented in four weekly lessons. A live online session is held weekly with the faculty and participants. Participants should expect to spend approximately four hours per week on course related reading and assignments.
HO109VC - Foreclosure Basics for Homeownership Counselors - $50
This is a beginner to intermediate level course and is recommended for counselors and others with less than 12 months of foreclosure intervention counseling experience. Learn the protocols for counseling homeowners in financial crisis. Default and delinquency will be addressed, including reasons for default; ways to maximize income and reduce expenses; calculating delinquencies; understanding the players in the mortgage marketplace; and loss-mitigation options for a variety of mortgage products.

  October 13 - 23, 2020
*Each webinar is 1/2 day. You may register for one or more of these webinars depending on your training needs and availability. However, any webinars that you register for must be completed within Phase 1 date range.
HO102el: Mortgage Lending Fundamentals for Homeownership Professionals - $20
Learn how to discuss your deal with private-sector lenders and present a loan package that will interest lenders and result in a positive review of your loan request. Find out what your loan package should and should not include. Discover how to best present your ideas to private-sector lenders to get them to finance your deal. Recommended for community housing development organizations (CHDOs), community-based organizations, community development corporations and others involved in financing real estate or business development deals.

HO130el: Understanding Credit Reports and Credit Scoring - $20
This introductory online course provides the basics of credit reports, credit scoring and how both are used by lenders to determine access to credit. Through interactive exercises and learning checks, you will gain an understanding of what a credit score is, learn how they are determined and be able to explain the meaning of information found in credit reports, including how to correct inaccurate information.

HO180el: Engaging Older Adults in Financial Capability Programs - $20
This course provides tools, resources and referral options to aid practitioners in guiding older adults in; effectively managing their money, avoiding common scams, remedies for financial fraud, and living in safe and affordable housing. Additional resources, including resources and referrals for counselors and service providers and a listing of websites for the population will also be made available through this course.

Being Green, Seeing Green: Counseling Clients to Maximize Energy Savings is an online learning experience which provides key knowledge, skills and competencies to provide high quality counseling and group education on ways for consumers to save money through practicing green behaviors and using green products to lower expenses and live in a safe, healthy home.

HO107el: Foreclosure Process Overview for Housing Professionals -$20
This course is designed specifically to increase your understanding of the basic concepts of foreclosure intervention. This is a beginner course that will acquaint you with foreclosure terminology, processes, concepts and techniques. Upon successful completion of HO107el, you will have a working knowledge of foreclosure intervention and the ability to direct at-risk homeowners to appropriate referral resources and outcomes.
