2020-2021 Faculty Development Series 2

 
Self Directed Learning
three one-hour sessions presented by
Gloria Aquino Sosa, PhD

November 20th, December 4th and December 11th 
1-2 pm EST via zoom

The purpose of this series is to help participants in all medical fields understand their own learning style and gain techniques to assess and promote self-directed learning required to remain current in medical knowledge and treatment options.

After completing this series
, participants will be able to:

~ Identify their learning "practice" method - cramming, interleaving or varied (Brown, Roediger & McDaniel 2014) and determine if it needs to be altered
~ Identify how to ascertain gaps in knowledge and list competencies necessary to fill gaps to learn
~ Evaluate three effective tactics to advance/sustain self-directed strengths-based learing for high-levels of retrieval and retention of new learning
~ Identify experiential biases that can alter self-directed learning
~ Identify three areas of growth and which practice method
~ Create lesson plans for sessions on self-directed learning strategies for medical residents
