Newts and Salamanders

Join graduate student staff at the Horatio Colony Nature Preserve to learn about native newts and salamanders. Specifically, we will learn about Red-backed Salamanders and Red Efts! Both of these amphibians have a unique life history.

We will hike along the Red Diamond Trail, share insights about their reproductive cycles, behaviors, and ecology, and search for the species under logs and rocks. You will be taught the appropriate way to find the animals and minimize impact. The fall season brings us beautiful changing leaves and inquisitive red-hued amphibians!

Join us for a moderately-strenuous, 1.2-mile round trip hike at the Horatio Colony Nature Preserve. Meet at the
Preserve parking lot on Daniels Hill Road in Keene at 10 a.m. Sponsored by the Horatio Colony Nature Preserve. Space is limited due to COVID-19. Masks and physical distancing is required.

Registration is required. Call 603-283-2115 or email colonypreserve@antioch.edu for details.
