Though primarily understood as an upper respiratory virus affecting pulmonary functions, a growing number of reports indicate COVID-19 often acts on multiple organ systems, impacting a range of cardiac, renal, vascular and neurological functions.  As research into the COVID-19 virus rapidly evolves, our understanding of associated neuroinvasive characteristics is also continually developing.  Emerging data suggests that a subset of individuals with COVID-19 experience significant neurological and psychological consequences.  This workshop will provide an overview of cognitive, emotional, neuropsychiatric, and other neurological manifestations associated with COVID-19, as well as underlying causes and contributing factors.  The session will also include a discussion of how COVID-19 associated neurological impairments may present in clinical practice, and strategies to facilitate identification and management of related cognitive and psychological symptoms.

Who Should Attend:

Social Workers, Mental Health Counselors, Creative Arts Therapists, Marriage and Family Therapists, and any professional that is working in the mental health field.

Learning Objectives:

  • Learn mechanisims through which COVID-19 can lead to neurological impairment
