Field Photography | October 10th

During this one day, in-depth class you will learn important skills to begin or imrove practice as a nature photographer. Photography is an amazing tool for creating modern day field guides and exploring more deeply the world around you. Instructor Josh Levesque will make sure you have:

  • the necessary knowledge to get the most from your photography gear
  • ample time to hike, explore, and practice shooting with instructor feedback
  • knowledge about the specific natural environment around Camp McDowell
  • class discussion on continued practice and dream shots

Tuition is $150.00 and includes lunch.

You will need to bring:

  • your preferred digital photography gear; phone, tripod, lenses, DSLR (whatever you usually shoot with)
  • plenty of drinking water for the trail
  • comfortable clothing and shoes for hiking with a cool breeze or rain. 


  • To comply with Alabama's Safer at Home order, all registrations must be compiled of members of the same household.  
  • In accordance with Alabama's Safer at Home order, all parties from different households must remain at a 6-foot distance and wear a mask when interacting with others. 
  • This class will be taught completely outside. You may use the Welcome Center restroom before hiking begins. You MUST wear a mask while inside. All other gathering spaces will be closed. 
  • Lunch will be served outside to promote social distancing. 

 All Camp McDowell payments are processed through PayPal. You may use a credit card to pay this way without making a Paypal account. During registration you will be prompted to continue then redirected to PayPal. To continue without an account select "Pay with Debit or Credit Card" to complete your registration. 

Student cancellations are subject to a $50.00 fee. Should Alabama Folk School cancel this event due to changes in COVID-19 ordinances you will be eligble for a tuition transfer or full refund.
