10 ways to turn your BIM Model into a Visual Storyteller

Over the last few years, BIM has become the dominant means of creating architectural drawings.  In this virtual

presentation, Sarah Bonser AIA, of IBI Group in Seattle, will share her experiences with the

wide range of design technologies currently available to architects and designers.

She will survey a number of current technologies that can be integrated with your BIM models,

with a focus on leveraging them to represent architecture, both for concept design visuals

as well as quality control during construction administration.  Explore how other entertainment

industries are portraying 3d spaces and how these technologies could cross over into the

architectural industry, helping architects to visualize their designs.  Learn about what is currently

available within BIM pipelines, and understand what Firm Leadership needs to know

in order to successfully implement them.

Sarah Bonser, AIA is a Seattle-based Architect at IBI Group, with a passion for gaming and an interest in technology. Her thesis, while pursuing an M.Arch degree at The Ohio State University, focused on making architectural theory accessible to the general public. Along with practicing architecture, she is a leader in developing best practices for graphic representation in design, and she is a mentor in her community in demonstrating the value of design through technology.

Learning Objectives:

Learn about what is currently available within BIM pipelines, and understand what Firm Leadership needs to know in order to successfully implement them. Attendees will see a more practical side of creating 3d graphics for the purpose of improving design fidelity between concept and construction documents.

Using unique visuals, the session will explore the differences between live isometric, live render, and artistically rendered graphics.  Understand the level of BIM model maintenance commitment that is required for on-going design changes throughout a project's lifespan.

After learning how the gaming industry can influence architectural representation, consider how to leverage your BIM model to create successful 3D Graphics to iterate your project's design.  Explore various techniques to telling a visual story, including using isometric maps, interactive 3D renderings, simulation and generative design, and creating 3D details.
