We are pleased to announce the 2021 Winter Workshops will be held online, Monday, January 11, and Tuesday, January 12. This event will be held exclusively online. Sign up for one or both days, and attend as many sessions as you wish.
Presented by the CCC Information Security Center and Accessibility Center, this twice-annual event is packed with information and techniques you can apply to your professional role. Workshop information is geared toward:
9:15-10:10 am - Ransomware Defense
Ransomware is one of the fastest-growing threats to information security within the education sector. In this session, Aamir Khan, Chief Information Security Officer at the California Community Colleges Technology Center, will provide an in-depth look at the problem of ransomware as it applies to higher education institutions, and the recommended practices for California community colleges to defend against this type of cyber-attack.
10:15-11:10am - Social Engineering
A social engineering attack is when an bad actor attempts to take advantage of an unsuspecting user in order to obtain confidential information or the means to access that information. Omer Usmani, Senior Security Analyst with the CCC Technology Center, will cover the most common social engineering methods - workflow, direct phone solicitation, physical access, and phishing - and what to do if you suspect you have been targeted.
11:15-12:00 pm - Security Event Logging & Monitoring
Logging and monitoring activity on the network - such as emails, logins and firewall updates - makes it easier to detect and analyze anomalous behavior. In this session, Farrukh Ali, Threat Analyst with the CCC Technology Center, will cover configuring systems and applications for security monitoring; deploying Sysmon for Windows monitoring; aggregating and searching security events; alerting on security events; and an introduction to threat hunting.
1:35-2:25 pm - Microsoft Threat Protection
In this session, Dan Rojas will provide an overview of enterprise security services within the Microsoft Threat Protection suite, including Office 365 Advanced Threat Protection (ATP), Microsoft Defender ATP, Azure ATP, and Microsoft Cloud App Security.
