Wise Webinar Series: 

Disability Bill of rights

 with People First of Washington

 

Please join us on Wednesday, October 7th for our webinar, "Disability Bill of rights."

Washington state recently passed a bill putting in one piece all of the rights and expectation a person with a disability has around all the services that they receive from DSHS/DDA.  People First has spent significant time getting terminology changed on several point that did not support a person with disabilities success and independence. 

The new law of the land in Washington has been put into use at DDA and can partially be found on their website. Changes are still being resolved. During this presentation several people involved From Self Advocate, Agency Administrator, A former DDA Case Manager, A Special Education instructor.  Self-advocate board members from the DDC, SAIL, DRW and more. 

Learning Objectives (Info, tools, and skills attendees will receive):

  • Understanding of This new Law.
  • Understanding of the Respectful Language Laws
  • Expectation of the person with a disability
  • Various perspectives of the services people receive
  • Where the self-Advocate movement is going.
  • What independence looks like now.
  • The Civil rights of a person with disabilities
  • How to incorporate this into the lives of the people you serve.
  • Help prevent discrimination and abuse of people with disabilities
  • Empowering a Person with a disability.

*Please note: Wise maintains registration and attendance records for our events and training programs. Attendees that fully participate in events and/or complete training programs will receive a certificate to document  full participation as back up for billing purposes.  Wise is required to monitor participation in our courses and provide reports to our funding sources so that they may utilize these records in the course of their audits of programs. These reports may include actual time spent by attendee name, event/training title, county and state. Reports are provided to ensure there is documented proof of the appropriate use of government funds for the purposes of professional development.
