This course of instruction is designed specifically for law enforcement officers. The focus of this training is to prepare investigators to utilize effective methods of interviewing and interrogation techniques. Attendees will be able to identify the differences between an interview and interrogation and learn ways to structure interrogations to identify and address deceptive verbal and non-verbal cues from suspects.
Attendees with receive instruction on identifying and dealing with false confession phenomenon and relevant legal rulings and case law pertaining to police interrogations. The goal of this training is to give law enforcement officers additional tools and confidence to successfully navigate in the interview room.

Instructor: Lt. Michael Lovely, Norfolk, VA PD is currently assigned to the Homeland Security Division and serves as the Officer-in-Charge of the Hostage Crisis Negotiation Team. Over his career, Lieutenant Lovely has overseen hundreds of criminal investigations and has experience in handling many high-profile cases, including a home invasion case that left a mother paralyzed after she and her two young daughters fell victim to four armed robbers. As lead investigator of the case, Lieutenant Lovely brought about the successful apprehension, interrogation and prosecution all four felons. During his career with the Norfolk Police Department, Lieutenant Lovely has received the Distinguished Service Medal and his department’s highest award, the Medal of Honor.
