Mindful Yoga

As we move through this pandemic, many of us are finding ourselves sitting far more than we are used to. Sitting for prolonged periods can lead to many health risks including loss of physical balance, chronic pain, weight gain and poor blood flow. Being mindful of posture, movements and our habits are important for physical, mental and emotional wellbeing.

Join Valerie weekly, or drop in when you are able. Valerie has taught 20 years. Her teaching is informed by 30 years of practice, combined with 19 years of teaching and extensive training in alignment-based yoga (Iyengar) and Yin (Insight) yoga. She has taught adults and children, both beginners and experienced students, and has been on staff at The Yoga Institute of Miami since 2001.

This series will follow a flow, and each class has a theme.

Week 1 - October 21 – Stand Strong– an exploration of alignment-based yoga in a variety of standing postures.

Week 2 – October 28 -  Sit Easy– a practice of seated postures to release hip and leg stiffness, safe forward bends, and twists for spinal freedom.

Week 3 – November 4 -  Bend Back– an exploration of safe moderate back bends and moderate inversions for flexibility and improved mood and respiration.

Week 4 – November 11 - Rest Deeply– a class dedicated to restorative postures to soothe the nervous system and quiet the mind.

This is an online offering. Participants will need to have access to zoom, with a camera to be seen during the practice, a yoga mat, and a safe space to practice. A firm blanket or two, or a firm cushion for sitting are helpful. If a bolter or blocks are available, they will be used. Wear comfortable clothing.

Adults and children over 12 are welcome.

If you have specific limitations that limit your movement, or any chronic conditions, please email in advance of joining the class. Questions are welcome.

Drop-in fee $10 per person / Series fee $38
