Presentation Topic: DDOT's Vision Zero Traffic Safety Improvements

In order to advance the District’s Vision Zero goals, DDOT’s Traffic Engineering Signals Division has integrated multimodal safety into two main ongoing efforts. With its safety construction work, the team has been implementing Left Turn Traffic Calming measures, No Turn on Red restrictions, and Dual Turn Conflict Mitigation treatments. Also, through the ongoing Citywide Optimization Program, DDOT has been implementing signal timing and phasing improvements on a network-wide scale. Such improvements include Leading Pedestrian Intervals, pre-timing of Walk signals, Age-Friendly upgrades, and protected crossing phases, among others. All of these efforts have been deployed across all eight wards, serving to improve District residents’ safety and mobility in an equitable manner.
