Motor vehicle crashes are part of a patrol officer’s everyday life. However, they are for the most part, poorly investigated, because officers are poorly trained. Across the Nation in 2018, an estimated 36,540 people were killed on our public ways in motor vehicle crashes, compared to 16,214 homicides/manslaughters during the same time period. Yet, we still find crash investigators receiving less training, why? Hopefully, that trend will change as technology is changing every day.
This 80-hour course will provide police officers with the knowledge and skills they need, to conduct an initial assessment at each and every crash they encounter. Unless collected, recorded and preserved at the time of a crash, valuable evidence can be lost forever. The following subjects and more will be covered to assist officers in making more complete investigations:
