Wild Ones Members Fall Foliage Hike

Tennessee Valley Wild Ones members are invited to participate in a fall foliage hike along the Cumberland Trail State Scenic Trail.  Stephan Eselgroth will lead a 2-3 mile, out and back hike to view native plants and fall foliage along the Rock Creek Connector Trail.

This hike should provide us with a display of many different types of native plants including woodland asters, goldenrod, hearts a bustin, Partridge berry, Pipsissewa, American holly, Beautyberry, American Beech, Eastern hemlock, Big-leaf and Umbrella magnolias, and fall colors with Striped and Sugar maple, Sourwood, Dogwood and Painted buckeye, various Hickory, Farkleberry and maple leaf viburnum.

There will be great opportunities for taking photos and seeing wildflowers, shrubs and trees in their native environment.

This 2-3 mile, out and back hike is rated as moderate.  A few spots along the trail are moderately difficult and some slippery very rocky spots are present, a small/nearly still and shallow water crossing may be necessary and rock staircases are present.  Caution for those with impaired balance, especially with fall leaves starting and if there has been rain.  There are areas where those who don't feel physically capable may want to hold back and the group will be notified about those areas.

This program is free and open to Tennessee Valley Chapter Wild Ones members, including family.

Limit: 10 participants.  For the safety of all, mask wearing will be required.  Wear comfortable clothing appropriate for hiking.  Bring your lunch, snacks and beverages.

Driving directions and additional program details will be provided upon registration.
