WMCPA 2020 November Meeting

Please join our November 2020 meeting featuring Simon Hutchinson. Meeting is free for members and will be done via webex.

Simon’s experience with IBM midrange started over 30+ years ago in the United Kingdom, in a pre-AS/400 world. Since immigrating to the USA in 1992, he freelanced in many parts of the South West before finally settling in Central Texas. Currently, Simon is the IBM i DevOps manager for a financial institution, and works with all aspects of IBM i development, software support, and training.

While training developers to program in RPG, Simon became frustrated by the lack of modern examples of IBM i programming on the internet. This inspired him to create his acclaimed IBM i blog: RPGPGM.COM. He has been writing for seven years giving many detailed examples of the latest RPG, SQL, and CL.  Simon is an IBM i Community Contributor.

Session 1: Looking at your data from a different View-point

Session 2: My favorite SQL Views, table function, etc. and how I use them

Session descriptions:

Looking at your data from a different View-Point

Building SQL Views over your existing data allows you to be able to look at it, and use it, it many different ways. I will give practical examples of how I use Views to simplify my work, and provide users with data in the format they desire in a quick and easy manner.

My favorite SQL Views, table function, etc. and how I use them

There have been a lot of additions to SQL in recent releases and technology refreshes that allow IBM i developers to be access data for all kinds of “system” duties, in easier ways than using CL commands and APIs. I will share my favorites I use on a regular basis how I have create program to simplify and automate many system tasks.
