Connecting, Job Coaching and Fading in the time of COVID
Panel with Chuck Goodwin, Michael Beasley and Lance Walcott
As the pandemic continues, stress and uncertainty have gripped us all. Supported employment agencies have struggled to support those who work or seek employment yet are unable to work because of COVID concerns, job development for those who are looking for work and job coaching, fostering self-management and fading to natural supports in an often times diminished work force. This class will focus on how to stay connected to the persons we support, the businesses, and our own coworkers both remotely and in person where possible. We will be joined by two co-presenters who are supported by employment agencies and have experienced the ups and down in employment during this time. They will share their stories and how they have stayed connected and they have shifted both their employment and career goals.

Learning Objectives (Info, tools, and skills attendees will receive):
- Understand directly from the individuals we support their experiences during this time
- Look at the barriers that exist to traditional employment supports
- Learn innovative strategies that have been employed in ongoing support, social coaching, and self management.
- How to encourage collaboration and support within our agencies and with the individuals we support
- Tips for including individuals we support in developing support strategies

Wise is required to monitor participation in our courses and provide reports to our funding sources so that they may utilize these records in the course of their audits of programs. These reports may include actual time spent by attendee name, event/training title, county and state. Reports are provided to ensure there is documented proof of the appropriate use of government funds for the purposes of professional development.

Chuck Goodwin
Chuck Goodwin has been involved in supporting individuals with disabilities for 40 years. He spent much of the first 20 years working for employment agencies. For the last 20 years he has been the CEO, Director, Presidente and sole employee of Woodfrog Consulting. He has done hundreds of trainings as well as consulting to both residential and vocational agencies. He is passionate about using positive behavior support techniques with individuals. Most importantly he has continued to work directly with individuals as an employment professional. Chuck has worked the past several years collaborating with individuals with disabilities to tell their stories through videos as well as facilitating their becoming paid trainers, consultants, and teachers. The people we support are the real experts and the best teachers in our field.
Michael Beasley
Michael Beasley, 37 years young, has overcome many obstacles in life and is now living a successful life as an author, keynote speaker, database technician, and training consultant for a local non-profit. Join me as I give my expertise and insight into how to communicate effectively with individuals with disabilities virtually in this time of COVID.Lance Walcott
Lance has been working with Service Alternatives for over four years as a presenter with Chuck Goodwin. Lance has enjoyed sharing his life experiences with others and making a difference by training new service providers. Lance also works as a dishwasher with Farrelli’s Pizza in Maple Valley since July of 2017. He would consider himself a friendly individual who enjoys shopping and being a part of the community. Lance likes to play online games with his friends and spending time to himself to decompress. When he is not at home or working, Lance likes to go out for lunch or to Starbucks for a hot chocolate. He also has a passion for caring for animals and has volunteered at his local Animal Shelter for over six years as a kennel assistant.
