with Emily Harris and Debra McLean
In this session Debra McLean, Wise Associate and Emily Harris, Wise, will partner to highlight some Supported Employment tips and tools to implement in your work today. In a fun, informative session, Debra and Emily will share their approach to connecting people to jobs that fit them, and their creative spin on both job development style and training.
*This training wouldn’t be poetry in motion without a smattering of Supported Employment Poems.

Learning Objectives (Info, tools, and skills attendees will receive):
- An approach for Discovery digging deeper to discover who a person is, and ideas about where they could thrive in an employment setting
- Ideas about how to access your community networks using skills and interests as a guide.
- Putting it all together- how to take information you know about a person, and their community and relate it to job match.

Debra McLean
Debra is passionate about seeing all people obtain employment. She has been intrigued with community building and person centered planning as a way to see individuals with disabilities succeed in jobs that fit them since 1988. She has worked on a number of projects involving people with disabilities and employment. Debra provides training and consultation on employment and person centered planning in Washington and Oregon, and she has taught classes on these topics at Portland State University in the Teacher Education Program and for Highline Community College. She has worked with schools, families, agencies, businesses, and individuals, both in the U.S. and in Australia. Debra holds an MS in Rehabilitation Counseling and Deafness, and she is an enthusiastic walker and family member.
Emily Harris
Emily Harris has had the good fortune to be affiliated with people with disabilities throughout her life. She has over 12 years’ experience doing work as an Employment Consultant and a Positive Behavior Support Consultant with individuals, families, and Employment Agencies in the Pacific Northwest and beyond. She also has international consulting experience working with employment agencies across New Zealand. Emily is committed to the concept of inclusion and full participation and knows that employment is critical to equity. She holds a BS in Arts and Letters with a focus in Women Studies and English, is a Certified Employment Professional through APSE, and currently serves on the National APSE Employment Support Professional Certification Council (ESPCC). Emily is a trainer and trained in the process of Person-Centered Planning. Emily is a natural networker and believes that being connected in your community is vital to the success of connecting people with sustainable employment. Emily loves music (especially soul and oldies on vinyl), spending time with her family, and vintage shopping in small towns.
