The Heart of the Relationship: Child-Centered Play Therapy and the Power of Play 

This workshop will present the theory, principles and practices of play therapy by examining a Client- Centered Play Therapy (CCPT) approach. Participants will explore the developmental, neurobiological, and empirical rationale for CCPT and understand how this theoretical orientation benefits and meets the child's therapeutic needs. Participants will also have a chance to practice some of the foundational relationshipbuilding skills used in CCPT in hands-on, interactive activities. All experience levels are welcome!

Objectives:

  • Define Child Centered Play Therapy and how it varies from other theoretical approaches 
  • Discuss the developmental, neurobiological, and empirical rationale for utilizing Child Centered Play Therapy 
  • Practice applying foundational play therapy skills and interactive and hands-on activities

About the Presenter: Machen Champion, MA, LPCC-S, RPT

Machen has 11 years of experience in a variety of settings including teaching first grade, inpatient psychiatric unit, and counseling children and families in outpatient community mental health. She is currently the Director of Training and Continuing Education at Catalyst Counseling, LLC, and is training in the Neurosequential Model of Therapeutics (NMT) as well as Synergetic Play Therapy.

Due to COVID-19 concerns, this one time online event is approved by APT for 3 hours contact CE hours. APT CE are only being awarded for this training.
