PLEASE NOTE:

  • We are saddened to break this news to our members, but the ASME Milwaukee Section Board has decided that, given the current conditions with Covid-19 cases on the rise and many uncertainties with planning any type of in-person event,  it is best to cancel our annual Spouse's Night event.
  • If you have not already done so, please remember to renew your ASME membership as soon as possible.

Thank you for your patience and understanding during these uncertain times.

ASME - Milwaukee Section January Webinar & Virtual Book Discussion: “When Milwaukee Went to War: On the Homefront During WWII”

Register Now!ONLINE REGISTRATION WILL REMAIN OPEN UNTIL 6PM ON JANUARY 13, 2021!

In an effort to keep our members engaged during this time of quarantining and social distancing, the ASME Milwaukee Section is inviting you to join us for a webinar on Wednesday, January 13, 2021 at 6pm.

There is no cost to attend and we would like to have discussions after the webinar with our expert presenter.

TITLE:  When Milwaukee Went to War: On the Homefront During WWII

SUMMARY:

This webinar will be presented by our very own ASME History & Heritage Chairperson, Thomas Fehring, who is the author of this book.  The book is sponsored by Milwaukee’s War Memorial Center in commemoration of the 75th anniversary of World War II.  During his presentation, Mr. Fehring will discuss some of the innovative engineering accomplishments that were made here during the war, such as proximity fuses (world’s smallest at the time—small enough to be placed on the head of mortar shells), major equipment used to extract U235 in the Manhattan Project (by Allis-Chalmers), and several others.  Learn how Milwaukee, as an industrial center, was called to arms becoming part of America's 'Arsenal of Democracy.'  This presentation will discuss the role that Milwaukeeans played "on the homefront" during the war as they worked toward a common goal - victory.

The book is available locally at Boswell Books, the Milwaukee County Historical Society, and Historic Milwaukee. It can also be purchased on Amazon (https://www.amazon.com/When-Milwaukee-Went-War-Homefront-ebook/dp/B08H42HP17). In addition to the paperback, it is also available on Kindle. All net proceeds go to the Milwaukee War Memorial Center for their programs.

ABOUT THE PRESENTER:

Thomas Fehring has been the ASME History & Heritage Chairperson for many years.  During that time, he has used his love of history and Mechanical Engineering to author multiple books about famous mechanical engineering innovations that originated locally.  Many of which have been designated as ASME historic landmarks and inventions.

THERE IS NO COST TO ATTEND THIS WEBINAR!

HOWEVER, during the registration process we will be giving you the opportunity to donate to our ASME Milwaukee Section student support initiatives (grants, competition awards, etc.) that are used to help our fellow University Student Sections remain involved in ASME programs and competitions as well as STEM initiatives for our local K-12 school programs.

Dontations will show up as $5, $10, $15 or $20 and we can only accept them through PayPal at this time.

On behalf of the ASME Milwaukee Section we greatly appreciate all of the support of our members and look forward to being able to meet in-person again!
