This webinar, to be led by national expert Scott Cotenoff of La Piana, will address the many opportunities nonprofits can utilize to share costs and operate more efficiently. Options to be discussed will range from sharing services like human resources and accounting, collaborating to offer programs, to mergers.  Participants will be asked to think about current potential partnerships and to think through what that might look like.

Informed by 20+ years’ worth of experience in this area, La Piana outlines the variety of potential organizational relationships, key drivers of success and potential challenges to achieving success, as well as the process by which organizations can develop these relationships.

Scott is dedicated to helping clients attune to the world around them so they can respond quickly to new opportunities to advance their mission. Asked about some of his most rewarding projects, Scott cites two recent mergers — one, a merger of two racial equity nonprofits, and the other a merger of three groups serving the global development community — both of which will allow the organizations to have a greater impact. Past clients include: Race Forward/CSI; Inside NGO/Lingos/Mango (Humentum); Grand St. Settlement; Westside Commons; Health Federation of Philadelphia; Mental Health Partnerships; Prizmah: Center for Jewish Day Schools; and HOPE Program/Sustainable South Bronx.  

 Scott has a background in health, public health, and civil rights law. Prior to joining La Piana in 2013, Scott was senior VP for programs and new initiatives at New York City’s Partnership for the Homeless and served as executive director for the Children’s Hope Foundation and Body Positive. He has also worked for the City of New York in multiple capacities. Scott has an MS in Urban Public Health from Hunter College School of Health Sciences and a JD from Boston University School of Law; he has an undergraduate degree in Political Science from Duke University.
