STAMPED: Evenings for Educators and Communities Series

STAMPED: Evenings for Educators and Communities Series

presented by Rhode Island Center for the Book in collaboration with National Education Association RI, Rhode Island PBS, and statewide educators and partners.

Rhode Island Center for the Book has chosen STAMPED: Racism, Antiracism and You, by Jason Reynolds and Ibram A. Kendi, as the Reading Across Rhode Island 2021 selection. As part this project, RI Book, NEA RI, Rhode Island PBS and statewide educators are collaborating to provide educators across the community with the foundation, tools and resources for anti-racist and anti-bias teaching. By fostering a safe, informative environment to discuss the challenges regarding these practices and conversations in the classroom and community, the Evenings for Educators series encourages all stakeholders--including educators, parents, students and anyone interested in these important issues--to attend any one, two or all of the three series sessions.

The series features an exciting combination of educators, community organizations, and students who will share personal and professional experiences around bias and racism.  Each session will be held via Zoom from 7:00-8:00 p.m.:

  • Tuesday, February 2: STAMPED in the ClassroomThis session will help prepare you and your students to implement Anti-Bias/Anti-Racist education strategies. With presentations by NEA RI, Rhode Island PBS and special guest Crystal Monteiro, Educator, East Providence Schools & PBS Digital Innovator All-Star.
  • Tuesday, February 9: STAMPED in Conversation: Teachers and students share stories, insights and resources related to their experiences reading STAMPED. With presentations by Diversity Talks and Equity Institute.
  • Tuesday, February 23: STAMPED in the Community: Join Rhode Island community organizations for performances and interactive experiences to enrich your understanding of STAMPED

Please register to attend any or all of the three-night series at the link below. Professional development certificates will be provided for the number of hours completed. We hope that you can join us for these engaging and important events.
