Smart Irrigation Controller Program 

Apply to receive a FREE weather-based irrigation controller from the City of Oceanside while supplies last! The city received funds to install 80 smart controllers in select Oceanside neighborhoods. Residents who qualify can receive a free irrigation controller directly installed in their yard. Selected applicants will be notified within two weeks of applying and will be connected with a landscape contractor to schedule a site evaluation and installation date. Supply is limited and applicants will be reviewed on a first-come first-serve basis. Once all 80 controllers have been distributed the smart irrigation controller program will be closed.

Weather Based “Smart” Irrigation Controllers provide the appropriate watering schedule, adjust for weather changes, and irrigate based on the needs of the landscape and soil conditions. A smart controller will automatically reduce the watering time as the weather gets cooler and less water is needed, then as the weather begins to warm up, the controller will add more watering time. The controller’s settings are based on your particular micro-climate and will adjust to any changes in temperature or other seasonal factors. This technology is very water-efficient, helping you to use water efficently while attending to your landscape’s needs. A landscape contractor will assist with installing your controller during the scheduled site visit.

 Requirements to qualify to receive a smart irrigation controller: 

1. You must be a resident of the City of Oceanside and be listed on your water utilities account
2. You must have an existing, working irrigation system that does not contain weather-based technology
3. You must have an irrigated area larger than 500 square feet
4. You must install the controller at the address listed on your mailed/emailed invitation

**If you meet the above qualifications and are an approved applicant you will also be required to watch the controller tutorial video and complete the associated quiz prior to scheduling your installation appointment.

Limit one controller per household. For properties with two or more existing controllers, the contractor will determine which controller to replace based on maximized water savings.
