Join Interact for Health as we welcome Carol McGruder, founding member and co-chair of The African American Tobacco Control Leadership Council, to discuss how menthol-flavored tobacco products are affecting Black communities both locally and nationally, as well as what is being done across the nation to address this health equity issue.

There is no cost to attend, however registration is required.
Presenter:
Carol McGruder is a veteran of tobacco control efforts in California. The African American Tobacco Control Leadership Council works at the intersection of public health policy and social injustice. It has fought resolutely against the decades of racialized tobacco industry targeting of the Black community and the resulting 45,000 Black lives lost each year from tobacco related diseases.
The council has been at the forefront of the national movement to restrict the sale of mentholated tobacco products, assisting municipalities across the country in passing ordinances to rid their communities of these deadly products. It played a vital role in San Francisco’s historic passage of the first citywide ordinance prohibiting the sale of menthol and all flavored tobacco products and helped defeat the referendum to repeal the ordinance. It now engages with other advocates to fight back the tobacco industry's referendum on Senate Bill 793, California’s statewide bill that would have gone into effect Jan. 1, 2021.
Registration closes 5 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 17, 2021.
