International Education Overview - Introduction Session for New Staff


         

ABOUT THE WORKSHOP:

This workshop is ideal for staff who are new to the international education sector to understand more fully the place of the sector in Australia’s education and industry settings as well as gain more specific knowledge to help them better understand key aspects of a very complex sector:

ABOUT THE PRESENTERS:


  Amanda Fritz  - Director of International Programs,  Anglican Schools Commission International

Amanda has 20 years’ experience in international education.  Prior to her current role, Amanda held positions as the National Manager and WA State Manager for Allianz Global Assistance in Overseas Student Health Cover and six years in homestay management with the Australian Homestay Network (AHN).

Amanda also worked as part of the global Partnered Allianz Global Education (PAGE) team with Allianz Global Assistance in 2015, which helped to promote quality services to International students and promote Australia as a destination of choice for student mobility.  

In 2016, Amanda took a position managing the International Programs for the Anglican Schools Commission (ASC), which represents 14 independent co-educational secondary schools across Australia.  Most recently, Amanda’s role with the ASC expanded to also take on managing the ASC Language School, which focuses on delivering English Language Teaching courses and programs for primary and secondary students to prepare them for entry into mainstream schools.


Callum Cowell - Director of Global Engagement, The University of Western Australia

 

Callum took up his appointment as UWA’s Director Global Engagement in September 2019 (on secondment from the Centre for English Language Teaching at The University of Western Australia (UWA) where he has been Director since October 2014). Callum has worked extensively in International Higher Education & Training both in Australia and abroad. Prior to joining UWA, he was Director of International Student Recruitment for Western Australian Government Schools and TAFE Institutes (Education & Training International).

Before joining the WA Government in 2011, Callum spent eight years at Edith Cowan University (ECU). While at ECU he held positions of Regional Marketing Manager and then Head of International Marketing for 6 years.

Callum worked as an English Lecturer in the Humanities Faculty of Sapporo Gukuin University (Japan) from 1995-1999 along with other sessional teaching roles at Senshu University and Sapporo Kokusai University. Prior to working in International Education and Training, Callum’s early career was as a Dancer and Choreographer.

Callum holds a Bachelor of Education degree from Deakin University (formerly Victoria College – Rusden) and undertook his postgraduate studies in Business and Tourism at Monash University.
