Navigate the Nervous System: Incorporating Nervous System Know How into Play Therapy

Presented by Machen Champion, LPCC-S, RPT, NMT Phase I Certified

Ever wonder what’s happening inside of you and your clients as you play?

Come explore the primary role your nervous system takes in the play therapy room. Drawing from current research in interpersonal neurobiology and relational neuroscience, this brief introduction to the nervous system will help you learn how to work with your body to provide a better regulated and connected presence for your clients.

You will learn a few ways to track, monitor, and work with the underlying physiology driving your behaviors and the behaviors you see in the playroom. By doing this, your clients can settle into a felt-sense of safety, allowing them to feel seen and understood at a deeper level.

This training is appropriate for all levels.

Cost:

OAPT members: FREE Non- OAPT members: $50

Out of State APT members: $40 Students: $25

Registration closes on April 21, 2021

Objectives:

1. Describe the function of the autonomic nervous system and how understanding its function impacts the play therapy process.
2. Identify at least 3 ways that play therapists can support nervous system regulation in a play therapy session for both themselves and their clients.
3. Explain how a play therapist can provide a relationship that offers felt-safety, co-regulation, and attunement in the play room.
